In an increasingly globalised economy, the course is aimed at providing the student with a foundation in international business and management theory. It would equip the student with the knowledge necessary to build on skills and depth at the next level of study to succeed in an international business environment.

Learning Outcome

This course will develop analytical, management and business skills in a diverse environment, and an appreciation of business environment, management practice, including human resources. It will also develop the students learning and development skills.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age: 16 years
  • GCE 'O' Levels (minimum 3 passes at C6 credit including English language) OR
  • Full GCE 'N' Levels (minimum 5 passes at C6 credit including English language) OR
  • ITE/NITEC, Higher NITEC OR
  • Foundation in Business Studies awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy
  • Any other equivalent qualification would be considered on a case by case basis OR
  • Matured Entry route: Minimum 21 years old with 4 years of secondary education or equivalent OR with minimum 1.5 years of working experience

English Language Requirements

When prior education is not in the English Language medium of instruction any one of the following is required:

  • Professional Certificate in English - Intermediate awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy or equivalent OR
  • IELTS 5.5/TOEFL (paper-based) > 500 or TOEFL (computer-based) > 173
  • Any other equivalent English qualifications

Course Outline

  • Microeconomics: This module aims to develop a working knowledge of the principle concepts and theories in microeconomics. It teaches students to analyze problems in microeconomic and understand interrelationships of the individual business firms, industries, consumers, labourers, and other factors of production that make up a modern economy.
  • Business Law: The module aims to demonstrate an understanding of the underlying principles of business law and a working knowledge of the law of contract and its practical application. To let the students understand and apply legal principles relating to sale of goods and consumer credit. To acquire and demonstrate an understanding of the law of employment and the law of torts.
  • Business Ethics: Students will be introduced to the contemporary issues of ethics, morality and social responsibility that face the business community. Students completing this course will be able todefine various theories of ethics, appreciate the importance of ethics in attaining business success;better recognize common business ethics issues; formulate a framework for analyzing and solving real-world ethical issues; gain knowledge and critical thinking skills to analyze and resolve ethical issues in business.
  • Principles of Marketing: The aims of this course are to develop an understanding and skills in the formulation of marketing strategies across many different industry sectors, and provide a broad introduction to the mechanics of commercial competition, strategic thinking and IT.
  • Small Business Management: This module is designed to introduce the pursuit of entrepreneurial dreams. This course will provide a path and a guide to achieve entrepreneurial success. As the student will discover, there is much more than just leading and managing, although that too will be explored. The focus of this study is to assist those who seek an independent business career. The direct method of achieving the objective of this course is for the budding entrepreneur to produce a business plan.
  • Organisational Behaviour: The module aims to identify, understand and explain the complex interpersonal relationships that exist within an organisation. Introduce nature, processes and procedures of people management as well as introduce the elements of disciplinary and grievances procedures. Techniques such as job design and reward systems as goals for motivation are introduced.
  • Business Environment: This module is about opportunity and risk. Political demands for environmental improvement create obligations for managers that can conflict with the imperative of shareholder value creation. The lessons are broadly applicable to strategy and performance in markets distorted by government intervention and imperfect competition.
  • Business Finance and Accounting: This module aims to provide insight into the necessity to consider the financial implications of management decisions and to provide knowledge and skills that would enable them to prepare financial reports for various entities.
  • Business Research Methods: This module introduces the student to research methods typically used by business professionals and researchers in organisations and to impress on the student how database research methods help business professionals make better decisions.
