PROGRAM OBJECTIVE The programme emphasis on practical problem- solving and decision-making skills essential to today's knowledge-based economy, in addition to a strong understanding of business fundamentals.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE This programme is intensive and demanding in its requirements. It is important to note that the programme design expects students to undertake their studies on a completely full-time basis. Students are expected to attend lectures at least 5 times a week. Lectures are held between Mondays and Saturdays.MODULE CURICULUM
ENGLISH COMPOSITION 1
This module stresses the forms of exposition used in persuasive writing. The student draws upon personal experiences, thoughts, and readings, and works these materials into purposeful, organized essays. Attention to clear, appropriate English usage is also an important part of the course.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
This module develops students' knowledge and skills related to the operation of international business in global contexts. The module aims to equip students with the skills of working in cross cultural teams and analysing the impact of world affairs on international business. Students are required to select a topical issue in international business and select a multinational company on which this issue is likely to impact.
ELEMENTARY STATISTICS
Elementary Statistics is an introduction to data analysis course that makes use of graphical and numerical techniques to study patterns and departures from patterns. The student studies randomness with emphasis on understanding variation, collects information in the face of uncertainty, checks distributional assumptions, tests hypotheses, uses probability as a tool for anticipating what the distribution of data may look like under a set of assumptions, and uses appropriate statistical models to draw conclusions from data
LEGAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS
This module will equip business students with basic legal knowledge relating to commercial transactions so that they will be more aware of potential legal problems which may arise in the course of business and having become aware, to have recourse to such professional legal advice as is necessary in the circumstances. Subjects that meet these requirements include the Singapore Legal System, mediation and arbitration to resolve disputes, the types of various business organisations for businesses to conduct effectively within the law, directors' duties & liabilities, the making of valid business contracts and the rights & obligations of traders in the market place and negligence in the business environment through misstatements.
COMPUTER AS A TOOL
This course provides a foundation in technology use. Included are an introduction to the latest and most current information available on computers and technology. Students will gain a solid understanding of the current trends in technology and computer concepts as they are applied to the digital world. Hands-on application of word processing, spreadsheets and charts, and presentation software are emphasized. The effective and ethical use of the Internet as an information resource is considered.
INTROTUDCTION TO COMMUNICATIONS
This module introduces the study of communication in interpersonal, small group, organizational, mass, and intercultural contexts; covers basic communication models, theory, and research methods used in communication.
SPEECH COMMUNICATION
This module explore on the fundamental elements, characteristics, and processes of communication, including communicating in a multicultural society, interpersonal, intrapersonal, as well as small group of contexts. Oral presentation experiences are heavily integrated throughout the course with a focus on public speaking design and delivery.
INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY
This module examines general topics in various areas of philosophy showing different sides of issues; develops critical thought and philosophical method.
INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY
A survey of the subfields of psychology including physiological, perception, motivation, learning, personality, abnormal and social, to enable the student to recognize bases for behavior and to develop an understanding of human behavior and experience.
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
This module introduces fundamental ideas and concepts of sociology, including culture, norms, status, role, socialization, stratification, industrialization, urbanization, and bureaucratization.
MODE OF DELIVERY OF COURSE
The course is 100% face-to-face lecture. The course work includes attendance of lectures, discussions of case studies, presentations, completion of group and individual written assignments.ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION
Continuous assessments in the form of case studies, discussions, presentations, group and individual assignments will be made throughout the course. At the end of each semester, candidates must sit for an examination on all the modules taken during the semester.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is monitored regularly. Students must achieve an attendance of 75% and above to be eligible for the end-of semester examinations. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requires all international students issued with valid Student's Pass to achieve attendance of 90% and above in any month of the course.ADMISSION CRITERIA
Advanced Diploma in Business Management
Five GCE 'O' level passes (grade 1 to 6) including English as a first language;
Other qualifications will be assessed based on the equivalence to GCE 'O' level examinations
English Language Requirement
GCE 'O' level credit pass in English; or
IELTS with an overall score of at least 5.0; or
TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper-based); or
An equivalent English Language qualification
Applicants who do not meet the English language requirement would need to undergo the Certificate in English Proficiency programme prior to enrolment in the programme. The duration of the Certificate in English Language programme depends on the applicant's English language proficiency level. Applicants can sit for an English Placement Test conducted by Asia Pacific International Academy to determine your English language proficiency level.
AWARDS & PROGRESSION
Students must complete and pass all 10 modules in order to graduate successfully. Graduating students will be issued a result transcript and awarded with a Diploma in Business Management from Asia Pacific International Academy upon graduation.
Upon completion of the Diploma in Business Management, students can advanced into the Advanced Diploma in Business Management awarded by Asia Pacific International Academy.
