Course details
The course is designed to help students understand the theory and techniques involved in accounting and financial management. The diploma course covers the areas of accounting, auditing, economics, finance, IT and business.
Learning Outcomes
To be abe to draft financial statements and understand the issues of accounting and finance, audit standards and practices and analyze the effects of Goverment economic policy and its influence in business decision making.
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 16 years
- GCE 'O' Levels (minimum 3 passes at C6 credit including English language) OR
- Full GCE 'N' Levels (minimum 5 passes at C6 credit including English language) OR
- ITE/NITEC, Higher NITEC OR
- Foundation in Business Studies awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy
- Any other equivalent qualification would be considered on a case by case basis OR
- Matured Entry route: Minimum 21 years old with 4 years of secondary education or equivalent OR with minimum 1.5 years of working experience
English Language Requirements
When prior education is not in the English Language medium of instruction any one of the following is required:
- Professional Certificate in English - Intermediate awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy or equivalent OR
- IELTS 5.5/TOEFL (paper-based) > 500 or TOEFL (computer-based) > 173
- Any other equivalent English qualifications

Course Outline
- Business Information Systems: Introduces the concepts of information systems and further focuses on business information systems and how it assists in business operations and decision-making.
- Business Law and Ethics: This module provides an understanding of the underlying principles of business law and a working knowledge of the law of contract and its practical application. It also explains the legal environment in which businesses operate, together with the impact of the European Community law upon the business environment. Moreover, this course also covers topics about ethics and morality, especially in the business setting.
- Business Statistics: This course will provide the students with practical knowledge on how to use statistical data in business forecasting, which can also be applied in other modules like Economics and Marketing. The course delves on topics like statistical methods, presentation and summary of data. It also includes laws of probability, price indices, as well as cost and revenue functions.
- Financial Accounting: This module enables the student to formulate and evaluate financial statements, within the context of the prevalent regulatory framework, and to demonstrate an awareness of the significance of accounting theory and in contemporary and practical relevance. It also covers on accounting standards and their application to basic accounting issues in a business. It enables students to have awareness of accounting standards in business environment.
- Financial Management: It provides students with an in-depth analysis of a firm's financing, distribution, and risk management decisions. The module also evaluates complex investment financing and leasing decisions using the adjusted present value model, as well as explains the financial implications of merger and take-over activities. The course will also enable the students to understand the fundamentals of accounting and finance.
- Principles of Business Management: This module covers the basic concepts of business administration and international business management. It will enable the students to understand and apply managerial principles to real situations in the organization. The Principles of Business Management is designed to prepare the students to be an effective manager, as it delves on topics like business ownership, environment of management, managerial skills and functions, globalization, and international trade and business handling.
- Principles of Economics: This course will provide the students with a comprehensive knowledge on how the economy works and how it affects different types of businesses. It covers topics like Supply and Demand, Elasticity, Money market and output determination, National Economy, Unemployment and Inflation, Economic role of government, International Trade, and other related matters.
