Course details

The aim of this course is to help students communicate effectively and confidently in English by developing the students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Intermediate level builds on the foundations for accurate and fluent communication already established in Elementary level by extending grammatical and functional skills.

At the end of the course, students will be able to refine their note­taking skills and write progressively longer academic essays. Students learn to participate and further refine their skills in public speaking.

What will I learn?

At the end of the programme, the student will be able to:

• Speak and listen to explore, elucidate, and contemplate on their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences at the intermediate level
• Communicate information and ideas effectively and clearly, and to respond personally and critically
• Express themselves in speech using a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures
• Read and respond with understanding to a range of visual texts at the intermediate level
• Interpret, select, and combine information using a variety of strategies and resources
• Write to explore, and reflect on their thoughts, feelings and experiences
• Use a range of strategies to develop effective writing

Course Modules

Listening and Speaking (Intermediate Level) 

Listening and Speaking is intended for students taking the course Certificate in Communicative English – Intermediate Level. The module is aimed at international students who are not native speakers of English and with a non­-English medium background who wish to enhance their listening and speaking skills in order to maximise their communicative competence in everyday life.

Reading and Writing (Intermediate Level) 

Reading and Writing is intended for students taking the course Certificate in Communicative English – Intermediate Level. The module is aimed at international students who are not native speakers of English and with a non­-English medium background who wish to enhance their reading and writing skills in order to maximise their communicative competence in everyday life

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the Certificate in Communicative English (Intermediate Level) Certificate by Mirror D’ International College

Entry Requirements

• Academic Level: Elementary Level or equivalent
• Language Proficiency: English Elementary Level or equivalent
• Students should be of a minimum of 15 years of age to be eligible for the course.

Before starting the course, new students will sit for a Proficiency Assessment Test to determine their entry level.

Graduation Requirement

Candidates should obtain at least 50% for each of the two modules to be awarded a pass certificate in Communicative English for the respective level.

Class Participation - 10%

Project / Assignments - 20%

Written / Oral examination - 70%
