The goal of the Advanced Diploma Program is to give dedicated students the opportunity to build a much higher caliber portfolio; greatly increasing their chances of entering top-tier game and film studios.

Course Outline

  • Production Design 1: Topics covered under this module are advanced digital painting and drawing techniques.
    • Module Highlights:
      • Learn advanced industry sketching and painting techniques
      • Integration of 3D software such as Z-Brush, Maya and SketchUp into the workflow
      • Learn to draw and design specific subject matters
      • Access to all other modules offered in the 1-year diploma program
  • Advanced Entertainment Design: Students will meet individually with the FZD Art Directors to discuss possible project directions. Collective decisions will be made based on the student’s skill level, area of interest and their ultimate employment goals. Once the project is selected, students will use the entire 15 weeks to produce their final presentations.
    • Module Highlights
      • Entertainment project chosen by the student
      • Close mentorship by FZD Art Directors
      • 15 weeks pre-production cycle allows for broader topic coverage and higher quality outputs
  • Studio Time: In between lectures, students will use studio time to work on their projects. Every student has their own space and equipment. Instructors are on hand during this time to answer any questions and provide help.
    • Module highlights
      • Allow students to work in a studio environment with others around them
      • Attend other modules from the 1-year diploma program
      • Instructors act as art directors during studio time. They can guide the students and help them with their assignments
      • Studio time gives students the opportunity to form close friends and build their network; a very important part of our industry
      • Create friendly competition between the students
      • Gain access to our internal network of reference materials
  • Production Design 2: This module builds on top of the previous term by importing in digital drawing techniques and advanced perspectives. Students combine the different techniques to bring their work up to another level of quality. At the end of the term, students will have a full understanding of all the various techniques used by industry professionals.
    • Module Highlights
      • Learn how to tell stories through production paintings
      • Learn how to produce high caliber paintings aimed at “green lighting” projects
      • Learn advanced industry sketching and painting techniques
      • Integration of 3D software such as Z-Brush, Maya and SketchUp into the workflow
      • Integration of photography and live “on- set” plates
  • Advanced Entertainment Design 2: Students will meet individually with the FZD Art Directors to discuss possible project directions. Collective decisions will be made based on the student’s skill level, area of interest and their ultimate employment goals. Once the project is selected, students will use the entire 15 weeks to produce their final presentations.
    • Module Highlights
      • Entertainment project chosen by the student
      • Close mentorship by FZD Art Directors
      • Final presentation critiqued by working professionals from the entertainment industry
      • 15 weeks pre-production cycle allows for broader topic coverage and higher quality outputs
  • Studio Time & Portfolio Preparation: During this last term, students will spend a majority of their studio time on portfolio preparation. Instructors will be on hand to help students arrange their book and choose the appropriate images.
    • Module Highlights
      • Allow students to work in a studio environment with others around them
      • Instructors act as art directors during studio time: They can guide the students and help them with their assignments
      • Studio time gives students the opportunity to form close friends and build their network – a very important part of our industry
      • Gain access to our internal network of reference materials
      • Use this time to prepare portfolios

Pre Requisites and Requirements

Applications should meet the minimum entry requirements and be certified physically and mentally fit to pursue the program. Applicants are required to sit through an entry interview and portfolio review unless exempted with valid reasons as approved by FZD School of Design Pte Ltd.

Admision Requirements

Singaporeans and permanent residents

  • Completed and graduated from FZD School of Design’s Diploma in Industrial Design.
  • Submit a visual art portfolio of no more than 15 pieces.
  • Completed and pass an interview with the school.
  • Certified physically and mentally fit to pursue the program.

International Students

  • Completed and graduated from FZD School of Design’s Diploma in Industrial Design.
  • Submit a visual art portfolio of no more than 15 pieces.
  • Completed and pass an interview with the school.
  • Certified physically and mentally fit to pursue the program.
