Course details

The Certificate in Foundation Studies is designed for students who do not hold formal university entrance qualifications but who are keen to pursue a full-time course leading toward university study after their GCE ‘O‘ level (or its equivalent). The Certificate in Foundation Studies will train students in different business aspect areas such as Ideas Critical Analysis, Introduction to Management, Introduction to Accounting and Fundamentals of Economics.

Structure & Content

The 4 modules for Certificate in Foundation Studies are:

• Fundamentals of Economics
• Introduction to Accounting
• Introduction to Management
• Ideas and Critical Analysis

Upon completion of the Certificate programme, graduates will be eligible for entry into the SMF Institute Diploma programme.

Applicants with WSQ Statement of Attainment may earn recognized prior learning credit exemptions for up to 2 units. 

Assessment Methods

Each module is assessed by a combination of class participation, written assignments (inpidual and/or group assignments), project or examinations. Assessment modes may differ according to inpidual module requirements.

Students will attend a combination of face-to-face lectures and tutorials in this programme

Entry Requirements

• Age 16 years and above
• Minimum GCE ‘O‘ Level with 3 credit passes (including English) or
• Nitec or
• International students who obtain high school / qualification equivalent to Year 11
• Working adults above 21 years old who do not meet the minimum requirement MAY be considered under the Mature Entry Route(Call us for more details)

AND ENGLISH REQUIREMENT

• GCE ‘O‘ Level English Language C6 or
• IELTS 5.0 (no inpidual band less than 5.0) or
• TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based) or 61 (internet-based)
• Pass SMF Institute English Placement Test
