Course details
This course aims to provide people currently working in or wishing to enter the manufacturing industry with the skills and knowledge required to perform their jobs effectively.
This course is developed to enable an individual to acquire the skills and knowledge in practising 5S techniques in manufacturing at work. It is a systematic approach that workers can use to make incremental and breakthrough improvements in processes that produce products and services for customers.
This course is specially developed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency to facilitate approved organisations under the WSQ scheme in training and preparing their staff to achieve the Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the competency unit “Apply 5S techniques in manufacturing”.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the training programme, the participant will be able to:
- SEIRI - Clear unnecessary items from work area
- SEITON - Organise work area in an orderly manner
- SEISO - Clean work area
- SEIKETSU - Maintain work area cleanliness
- SHITSUKE - Maintain self-discipline in work area
COURSE OUTLINE
1. Seiri – Clear unnecessary items from work area
- Meaning and significance of SEIRI to own job and workplace
- Application of SEIRI techniques to own job and workplace to achieve objectives of SEIRI
2. Seiton – Organise work area in an orderly manner
- Application of SEITON techniques to own job and workplace to achieve objectives of SEITON
- Principles of effective storage
- Methods to achieve visual control
3. Seiso – Clean work area
- Organisational pre-determined schedule for conducting SEISO
- Factors causing unclean work area and items
4. Seiketsu - Maintain work area cleanliness
- Benefits of standardising work area
- Take corrective actions against any deterioration of 3S (SEIRI, SEITON & SEISO) conditions in work area
5. Shitsuke - Maintain self-discipline in work area
- How to take personal responsibility and maintain positive attitude in implementing 5S
- Types of 5S improvement ideas in work area
- Propose 5S improvement ideas in work area in accordance with organisational procedure
