The course objectives/aims for Advanced Diploma in Business was designed to further develop and impart student's skills and knowledge in business, marketing and management and prepare them for entry to year 2 or 3 of a business undergraduate degree.

MODULE STRUCTURE

Business Communication
This module focuses on skills and strategies that managers need in today's workplace. The course covers comprehensive range of managerial competencies that could help in communicating with inter-department, customers, subordinates, superiors and many others.

Business Strategy
This module is about taking 'strategic decisions' through a thorough strategic management process to analyze the strength of businesses' position and understanding the important external factors that may influence that position. The subject covers global mindset in managing business and explains a numbers of management tools, including: PEST Analysis, Five Forces Analysis, Competitor Analysis, SWOT Analysis etc.

Small & Medium Enterprise Development
This is a subject to research SME's existence, development and evolution feature, involving politics, management, sociology and psychology. Through multiple study patterns such as case study, interactive discussion, communication with entrepreneur, it will help students to master SME's current situation, management experience and development strategy.

Electronic Commerce
This subject introduces to the students the basic concept and e-commerce and its general operations. It tells the students what is the difference between e-commerce and e-business; the different modes and markets of e-commerce. What are the legal aspects, rules and regulations, privacy and intellectual property right that concerned in E-commerce. The security and payment of e-commerce. E-retail, auction, financial, entertainment and career services in E-commerce. The role of E-commerce in Supply Chain Management.

International Business
International business is a term used to collectively describe topics relating to the operations of firms with interests in multiple countries.
Areas of study within this topic include differences legal systems, political systems, economic policy, language, accounting standards, labour standards, living standards, environmental standards, local culture, corporate culture, foreign exchange, tariffs, import & export regulations, trade agreements, climate, education and many more.
International business by its nature is a primary determinant of international trade. One of the results on the increasing success of international business venture is globalisation.

Entrepreneurship
The concept of entrepreneurship has a wide range of meanings. On the one extreme an entrepreneur is a person of very high aptitude who pioneers change, possessing characteristics found in only a very small fraction of the population. On the other extreme of definition, anyone who wants to work for himself is considered to be an entrepreneur. One can define the function of the entrepreneur as one of combining various input factors in an innovative manner to generate value to the customer with the hope that this value will exceed the cost of thee input factors, thus generating superior returns that result in the creation of wealth.

Leadership
This unit is an instant and perpetual concept and has been around since early stage of our society. An interactive activity, leadership works towards to attract talents to contribute to their utmost best effort, to enable them to help to resolve what have come by to them. Leadership is, with social impact, to create for others and to lead others so as to mould a new living path, be it individual, group or corporate. Leadership is a thought to guide and influence the mindset of others.

International Marketing

Marketing
The discipline of Marketing is the understanding and improvement of marketing management. It is the ultimate reason for broadly based courses in marketing such as consumer behavior and marketing research, as well as for the more specialized courses, such as retailing, wholesaling, communication, pricing and distribution and logistics.

International Trade & Practice
This module of study will enable students to have an in-depth understanding through theoretical studies of international trade, its characteristics, development as well as an in-sight of the emergence of MNCs. Most importantly, the proper understanding on the operations of Incoterms in the international business transactions.

Customer Service Management
Students on completion of the subject study would be able to have an in-depth understanding of customer service and to apply key concepts in customer service planning and management. Also to understand that customer service is a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction the feeling that a product or service has met the customer expectation.

Principles of Management
This unit enables students to enlarge their knowledge of management, to help develop their skill in applying management concepts to different situations, and to develop an interest in the study and practice of management that will help students achieve their life goals.

Human Resource Management
The objective of this module is to enable students to have an insight of HRM, its application and development so as to improve its theoretical level and operational skills. Through the introduction of HRM theories and application, to realize the objective as well as work efficiency of their workforce, in an organization.

Accounting
Through course study, students would be able to understand the position, role and the 'accounting value' of the accounting system. To achieve this value, the system should accept the changes, the accountant should have the quality and capacity. The module also trains students to think independently and skill, as well as its application in the economic environment.

Economics
This unit contents are specifically prepared for students who are beginners to the study of Economics, to help and enable students to better understand the fundamentals of Economics, to understand rationally the economic activities in and surround the daily living circle and, to have better conceptual understanding in respect of economic policy. At the end of the study, students will be able to make appropriate application and interpretation of economics in the commercial environments.

Finance
This unit is designed to help students understand the company financial director's roles and responsibilities. At the same time to study all the relevant financial analysis and financial decision-making process used by the basic concepts, principles and tools. Through the course study, students would be able to have a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts and principles of corporate finance, and methods of financial decision-making
Combination of the financial management theory with business practice, to grasp modern financial development trend.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Age Requirement
Applicants must be 17 years and above

Academic Entry Requirements

GCE 'O' Level or 11 to 12 years of school, AEC Diploma or Equivalent
9 years of school, with 3 years of work experience
Language Requirement

Pass in GCE O level Chinese or equivalent
Assessment & Grading

Students are assess based on a combination of formative and summative assessments for each module. To attain a passing grade for the module, students must obtain an overall pass both in formative and summative assessments.

GRADUATION CRITERIA

Students must successfully pass all prescribed modules (with the exception of exempted modules) in the programmes with grades (Distinction, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, or D) and meet the minimum attendance requirement, in order to graduate with an Advanced Diploma in Business (Mandarin) awarded by AEC College.

PROGRESSION PATHWAY

Upon successful completion of this programme, graduate may gain admission to any university, subjected to the university's entry and admission requirements.
