INTRODUCTION
Parametric design allows architects and designers to specify the key parameters and rules of their design, and make changes interactively and automatically. This enables multiple design solutions to be generated, as well as digital workflow from design to manufacturing, when integrated with BIM. Exemplary projects which adopted parametric design include the Water Cube, Singapore Sports Hub and the Henderson Bridge.
This 1-day workshop covers the practical applications, modelling workflow and how the model could be integrated with BIM to enhance the design process. There will also be hands-on practice for the participants to be familiarised with parametric tool.
SPEAKERS
DR PATRICK HUBERT THEODOOR JANSSEN is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore.
He obtained both his PhD and post-Doctoral degrees from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research and teaching focuses on parametric design, computer-aided environmental design and BIM. He has published many conference and journal papers as well as conducted several workshops in parametric design.
In this workshop, Dr Janssen will provide an overview of parametric design, its benefits and how it is applied and integrated with BIM.
WONG HAO JAN is the senior associate (Technical) at DP Architect in Singapore.
He joined DP Architects to work on the Singapore Sports Hub.
In this workshop, Hao Jan will share with the participants how parametric design helped enhance the design process of the Singapore Sports Hub Project.
THOMAS WORTMANN is an architectural researcher and teacher.
He graduated from MIT with a Master of Science in Design and Computation, after having worked for several years as a project architect for the Dutch architectural practice of NOX, known for its pioneering use of digital design tools. Thomas has 10 years of experience with generative design software, scripting, and programming. He has used computational techniques for a wide range of architectural projects and applications, from Conceptual Design to Structural Analysis, Optimization and Digital Fabrication
ALOYSIUS LIAN has practiced and taught architecture in the United States and Singapore, after graduating from Pratt Institute with a Master of Architecture.
In his five years working in Singapore, he has completed a wide range of buildings from small scale residential to large scale institutional projects, focusing on bespoke hospitality while exploiting digital fabrication techniques. Aloysius has worked extensively with various types of generative design and computation simulation software. He is adept at computational techniques of Environmental Simulation, Design and Optimization for advanced architectural design and realization.
Thomas and Aloysius will lead the hands-on parametric modelling session.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Architects, Architect Associates, Architect Assistants or those who are working in the architectural design domain, preferably with experience in 2D and 3D modelling.
