What You Will Learn
This certificate comprises of three courses that provides participants to learn operation, installation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems and application of sustainable and green building design concept to built environment.
Mechanical Systems
This module provides participants the knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of operation of various types of air-conditioning, mechanical ventilation, fire protection, water and sanitary systems in buildings, swimming pool and building automation system; as well as installation and maintenance requirements for the above systems. Participants will have hands-on practice on how to inspect, conduct test and commission the systems.
Electrical Systems
This module provides the participants with the knowledge and understanding of electricity supply and circuits, deregulation of energy markets and its impact, electrical distribution in small, medium and large installations, as well as electrical systems including lifts and escalator, lighting and lightning protection, and communication. Installation and maintenance requirements, rationale for the regulations, codes of practice, and how to inspect, conduct test and commission the systems will be covered in the topics.
Sustainable Facility Management
This module covers the application of sustainable and green building design concept to our built environment on building performance. It also cover the application of technologies to improve systems energy efficiency, water efficiency and waste management. These topics arise because facilities are great users of water and energy and are responsible for greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
Entry Requirements
Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:
A recognized Diploma / Degree in Engineering, Technology or Physics and;
- Practitioners or those seeking a career switch
A recognized Diploma / Degree in non-engineering / non-technology disciplines and;
- A credit or minimum grade of C6 in GCE "O" level Physics or Physical Science and;
- Practitioners or those seeking a career switch
