Course details

This "Shakespeare Scene Study" acting course focuses on bringing Shakespeare to life for the actor. It culminates in a small "in-house" studio presentation of prepared scenes performed for invited guests. It is for the committed student with some previous acting experience who is interested in performing. Attendance at every class is of the utmost importance due to amount of work in the term and the need for reliable scene partners. During the course our aim is to extensively develop the students’ understanding of heightened text and how Shakespeare’s language actually works. We will also explore the connection between the physical and verbal lives of characters and engender confidence in and commitment to words and language in action. It will require memorizing lines and a good bit of time outside of class hours for preparation. YOU MUST BE COMMITTED TO ATTEND THE FINAL NIGHT OF THE COURSE FOR THE PRESENTATION. These are practical, action packed classes, not sitting around talking about ‘poetry’, so come to this class if you’re interested in learning what the greatest dramatist in the world has to teach you about acting. It will be great fun! This class is limited to 12 students maximum in order to assure the highest level of tuition.
