Course details
This workshop, which will be partly experiential, will help practitioners to develop a deeper understanding of death, allowing them to recognize the needs of the dying. The art of gracefully letting go!
Participants will learn about methods that can be used to bring about healing in relationships and allow patients’ to meet with unfinished business. Sometimes we bring our own baggage to this too and this needs to be unpacked and seen with awareness.
Target Audience: This course will be of interest to doctors and nurses and health care professionals working with palliative care needs.
Main topics which will be discussed:
The workshop will explore:
- Working with grief and bereavement – our own and in our relationship to working with the dying and their families.
- Working with external energies which effect our own well-being and capacity to be really present with those who need it most. External energies including denial, anger, unfinished & unmet emotions of the client and their families, can be factors in the care we deliver care.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will have learnt how to:
- Develop an internal space by using the skills of mindfulness and awareness in order to ‘meet’ deeply, the client and their families at this time.
- Develop resources/skills that allow for self-care and care for each other
- How to open up a dialogue about death and loss, in particular about the moments before and after the death of a person
