Course details

This course leading to a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Security Studies is designed to prepare students for employment in the security industry. Students will be encouraged to sit entrance exams for the Gardai, Prison Service and Defence Forces. The security studies award is a valuable addition to those who are preparing to join

An Garda Síochána, The Defence Forces or the Prison Service. It will also benefit those seeking to set up their own security business.

  • Work Experience(every Friday in a security company or security section of a company)

  • Exercise and Fitness

Entry Requirements

  • Students should be of Leaving Certificate standard or its equivalent, however, students who do not possess the
  • educational requirements but who have a particular interest or experience in this work area will be considered. Mature Students are welcome. All students will be interviewed.
  • Garda Clearance is a requirement for this course.

Award

Certificate in Security Studies - FETAC Level 5

Progression

Students who successfully complete this course may gain entry to the Garda Siochana, Prision Service, Defence Forces, Third Level Institutes and Colleges through the FETAC Higher Education Links Scheme. Students who complete this award are eligible to apply for membership of the Security Institute of Ireland (SII).

Classes will be a maximum of 30 students.

This course is subject to Dept of Education & Science approval.
