Course details
Employees at a place of work are entitled to select and appoint one of their colleagues to act as a safety representative.
It is essential therefore that the safety representative has the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the function effectively. They should understand and be knowledgeable about safety and health matters so as to make a responsible and practicable contribution to safety and health issues in the workplace.
Programme Objectives
- Acquire knowledge and understanding of current health and safety legislation
- Know how to carry out inspections in the workplace to identify hazards and risks to safety and health
- Know how to investigate minor accidents in the workplace
- Develop the skills to identify preventive measures
- Know how to report accidents and/or hazardous occurrences and how to maintain records
- Develop effective communication skills to discuss health and safety issues with both employees and management

Certification
Participants are awarded a Safety Representative Certificate on completion of the course.
Our public course is aligned with the QQI Safety and Health at Work level 5 component certificate. This option is also available for in company courses.
A QQI Certificate of Achievement will be issued following completion of all assessments and validation of results by QQI and the appropriate credit under the National Framework of Qualifications will then be obtained by the candidate.
National Framework of Qualifications: Course is a level 5 component award and is a recognised module within the National Framework of Qualifications.
