Course details
This one-day course is the cornerstone of the MiX Telematics suite of Defensive Driving Courses. The course teaches trainees appropriate observation techniques and risk mitigation measures, and develops driving skills. The assessment identifies areas for improvement in driving technique and provides realistic and location-based solutions. This course is suitable for personnel required to drive during the course of their occupation and those commuting to and from their place of work - even if they aren't required to drive at work
To promote SAFE driving behaviour and eliminate the instances of motor vehicle crashes. This is achieved by providing drivers with the skills, attitude and knowledge to:
- Anticipate potential road crash situations
- Respond to emergency driving situations as they occur
- Develop effective vehicle control and observation skills
- Demonstrate low-risk driving techniques in driving a light vehicle
Course Overview
- Indentify the barriers to safe driving behaviour
- Demonstrate application of correct on-road observation techniques
- Identify factors that influence the ability to stop the vehicle or avoid a hazard
- Identify hazards and risks as they occur in an on-road environment
- Demonstrate a commentary drive while driving a motor vehicle
- Demonstrate a pre-drive vehicle inspection
- Demonstrate correct seating position in a vehicle
- Modify driving behaviour as hazards and risks are present while on-road
- Demonstrate correct vehicle handling skills for safe driving
Outcomes
This course will deliver the required driver training in terms of theory and practical skills. The participant must be competent in both areas to attain the Defensive Driving qualification and certification. Theory competence is assessed during the interactive classroom session and supported by a comprehensive practical on-road skill assessment. At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Conduct a pre-trip vehicle inspection
- Use effective observation techniques in hazard identification
- Drive light vehicles using low-risk defensive driving techniques
A certificate of competence is issued to participants who successfully complete this course
