For inpiduals who are appointed to carry out the duties of a Signalman and a Rigger in a workplace

OBJECTIVE

At the end of the course, participants would gain the knowledge and skills to tie the load for safe lifting by any form of lifting equipment using correct and clear signals to guide the crane operators to manoeuvring of a load safely to its destination

COVERAGE

• Legal requirements for safe lifting operation
• Roles and Responsibilities of a Signalman and Rigger
• Ensuring safe lifting operations
• Communicate lifting instructions using standard hand and voice signals
• Dos and don'ts of lifting operations
• Participate in toolbox meeting
• Indentify Hazards related to lifting operations
• Select and use the appropriate rigging equipment, lifting gears and accessories
• Check and verify load is properly rigged
• Apply 3 step lifting and lowering method
• Ascertain weight of load and determine centre of gravity
• Conduct pre-lift inspection of crane, lifting gears and accessories and serviceability of communication equipment
• Practice good housekeeping of communication equipment, crane, lifting gears and accessories
• Rig and direct load to destination with safe lifting
• Check for blind spots and estimate clearance of swing path with cordon- off of lifting and lowering area
• Respond to lifting accidents and emergencies
• Set up communications for safe lifting operation

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be over 18 years of age
• Must have Workplace Literacy and numeracy Level 2 or equivalent
• Able to read and write in English
