Course details
This QQI Level 5 full-time course has been designed based on the demand for better-qualified staff in the retail business. The award provides students with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of retail selling environments and/or to progress to higher level courses.
Course Content
Retail Selling
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to operate effectively in a range of retail selling environments.
Customer Service
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide effective customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, operating independently while under general supervision.
Retail Security
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work as a Retail Security Officer performing practical security duties, and responding to security situations, in order to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and members of the public.
Marketing Practice
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to operate effectively in a range of marketing-related contexts using the principles and concepts underpinning marketing practice.
Communications
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate verbally and nonverbally in standard everyday tasks and in work-related tasks, operating independently while under general direction.
Retail Display
This programme module aims to provide a learner with personal knowledge, skills and ability to display products in a retail environment efficiently.
Personal Effectiveness
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to apply a range of personal and learning skills in a variety of personal, civil and vocational contexts, operating with autonomy while under general direction.
Work Experience
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks independently while under general direction.
Information Technology Skills and Computer Applications
This programme modules aim to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to operate a computer and become proficient in Information Technology skills, and the capacity to effectively use a range of common computer applications

Entry Requirements
Priority will be given to long term unemployed applicants aged 21 or over and in receipt of a social welfare
