The Recovery in Mental Health Level 5 Minor Award will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the concepts, principles and values of recovery in mental health and to enable the learner to develop key skills necessary to work more effectively with mental health services.

- Understand key definitions, concept and key principles of recovery to include the conditions and contexts which are helpful for recovery
- Examine the role of mental health workers in supporting the service user with a mental health difficulty in the recovery process
- Discuss helpful and holistic factors for recovery to include internal and external factors associated with recovery such as hope and optimism
- Explore the range of methods people use to maintain positive mental health
- Understand the prevalence of mental health relapse issues and how to support the service user.
- Practice skills of empathy, listening and understanding in supporting persons in recovery
- Apply a holistic understanding of people with mental health difficulties outlining their unique and individual needs
- Use verbal and non verbal communication to assist persons living with mental health issues
- Work independently and as part of a healthcare team to respond appropriately to the needs of persons in recovery and living with mental health issues.
Entry Requirements
The requirements for entry to the Recovery in Mental Health Level 5 (Minor Award) are FETAC/QQI Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences. Those with relevant life work experience may not need a formal qualification.
A credit value of 15 applies to this course.
The Assessments for the Recovery in Mental Health course include: a combination of module appropriate assessment procedures will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes of this course. These methods will include a combination of continuous assessment processes such as assignments, collection of work, learner records, projects and skills demonstration.
Assessment Format: Learner Record 60% / Project 40%QQI Quality and Qualifications Ireland
Grading: Pass 50% - 64% / Merit 65% - 79% / Distinction 80% - 100%
Credit Value: A credit value of 15 applies to this course.
