    HOW WILL I LEARN?

    You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, projects, mandatory work placement and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year.

    HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

    A full Award is granted on passing the relevant eight components. You will be assessed throughout and at the end of the year. On successful completion of each component, you will be awarded a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction grade.

    WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FROM YOU!

    This is a two-year programme designed to prepare students for employment in Montessori Schools and Early Learning Childcare Centres. If you enjoy children under 6 years old and wish to teach in an early years learning environment, then this course is for you! You will be responsible for securing an appropriate off site work placement before the beginning of the course.

    CAREER/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

    Students may pursue a career in the Montessori Pre-Schools in Ireland or internationally or work independently in an Early Learning Centre. Students may also progress onto a Montessori Degree. Montessori Level 6 Graduates with full Award and min. of 3 Distinctions are eligible to apply to Year 3 of Montessori Degree in St Nicholas Dun Laoghaire (SNMCI). Graduates may also progress to participating Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) through the Higher Education Links Scheme or apply to Year 2 of the Early Childhood Education Degree in DIT.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    A student seeking entry to this programme does not need a previous formal qualification. However, the student must demonstrate at interview the capacity to successfully participate on this programme. This includes both the academic and work experience elements of the programme. Should the student have previous qualifications, one of the following may be appropriate for admission to the programme:

    For the purposes of Work Experience placements, students must be 18 years and over by the 31st October in year of entry due to HSE requirements.

    • Leaving Certificate/LCVP to include English and Maths
    • QQI Level 4 Award
    • Mature Students (over 21yrs) who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)
