Masters of Education in Special Education (MSPED) College of Education

    Course details

The Masters of Education in Special Education (MSPED) prepares leaders in the field of Special Education for Qatar in two specialized areas:

    1. Teaching Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities and
    2. Teaching Students with Severe and Profound Disabilities.

The MSPED program is a full-time program of graduate study that uses a final internship, rather than a thesis-based, approach. Instruction is in English. The program has a strong field experience component as a total of 436 hours are required over four courses and the final internship. As is appropriate for the field of special education, students come from a variety of backgrounds—e.g., special education, general education, psychology, audiology, physical therapy, nutrition, public health, and administration—and the program and its faculty are flexible enough to accommodate their professional interests and career goals.

Graduates from the program are prepared to serve as leaders in a variety of settings in Qatar and beyond, including independent schools, special schools, hospital schools, government and private educational agencies, and international organizations.

The MSPED Program is benchmarked to Qatar National Professional Standards for teachers and school leaders and guided by the standards of The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional association in special education.

    About College of Education

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the We_They website that presents the College's vision, mission, and conceptual framework, along with helpful information for current students, future applicants, education partners, and other visitors.

The members of the College are committed to its conceptual framework, “Together we shape the future through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and leadership.” Our programs are designed to prepare highly qualified teachers and educational leaders to support both the Qatar 2030 Vision and the Education Reform in Qatar. First-rate teachers and great school leaders are essential for educating the children and youth who will take the State of Qatar to its next level of excellence.

Although the We_They received International Recognition in Teacher Education in January 2011, its members are continually seeking to improve the quality of the College’s efforts. Further accreditation using the latest standards in teacher education is the next target on the horizon.

In addition, as part of its new strategic plan, the We_They—along with its partners, the Supreme Educational Council and Qatar’s Independent Schools—will develop new academic programs for teachers and educational leaders to meet society’s needs. It will enhance educational research activity in the country by increasing the number of research projects supported by the Qatar National Research Fund and conducted in partnership with academics from prestigious universities around the world. And the College will expand the professional development programs that are offered to teachers and educational leaders through its National Center for Educator Development and by the creation of new outreach programs.
