Course details

Significant developments and progress are being made in the methods and practices employed by the Irish public sector in accounting for state income and expenditure. This is being influenced by many factors, not least our recent economic history and relationship with Europe. The changes and developments will aim to support enhanced fiscal transparency and support better Governance and control of public spending. However, the pace of change is unprecedented and remaining current and up to date is challenging for all public servants.

Today course aims to consolidate the recent and future developments and changes in regulation and reporting into a coherent suite that gives each delegate an understanding and appreciation of current accounting practices for the Irish Public Sector.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the different accounting and reporting methods and practices currently employed within our public sector
  • Gain an appreciation of practices in other jurisdictions
  • Learn about the EU member state Accounting Standards Harmonisation Project
  • Get an opportunity to debate and discuss the implications of this project for the Irish Public sector

  • International Public Sector Accounting Standards
  • The European Public Sector Accounting Standards Harmonisation Project for EU member states
