This short programme will give learners understanding and knowledge of the fundamental concepts and processes involved in project management. You will also gain a solid platform of project management techniques, tools and skills to manage small projects or sub-projects. These techniques can be applied to technical, business, government or community development projects.

The UniCollege Short Programme Certificate in Project Management is endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Business Management (CIBM) and learners have the option to continue with further more advanced studies in this field.

Further Studies & PMI Certification

  • Learners can continue with the UniCollege short programmes in Advanced Project Management and MS Project. Learners who complete the Advanced Project Management course may qualify to write the external PMI (Project Management Institute, USA) examination for the internationally recognised Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. After that, learners with the necessary project management experience can also write the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam.

Planning and Control Cycle

  • Use a number of planning techniques to produce a baseline plan
  • Apply a number of project control techniques
  • Measure a project’s progress and accelerate a project’s performance
  • Quantity the scope of work, manage scope change control and produce a closeout report

Critical Path Method

  • Produce a network diagram and calculate the start and finish dates for all the activities
  • Identify the critical path

Gantt Charts

  • Understand the benefits of using milestones and Hammock activities
  • Understand how to use line of balance

Procurement Schedule and Resource Planning]

  • Understand how to use the procurement cycle and develop a procurement schedule
  • Forecast resource requirements and smooth resource loading to match requirement with availability

Project Accounts

  • Produce a project cashflow statement and a cost-to-complete report
  • Draw an expense S curve
  • Draw the earned value graph and calculate schedule and cost variances

Quality Management

  • Outline quality costs and conduct a quality audit
  • Understand the benefits of total quality management

  • Identify and respond to project risks and develop a disaster recovery plan

  • Set-up a document control system
  • Organise project meetings

Project Organisation Structure (Matrix)

  • List the range of organisation structures used to manage projects
  • Understand how to operate within a matrix structure
  • Understand a range of skills you can use to gain influence

Project teams and leadership

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the criteria for working as a member of a team
  • Collaborate with other team members to improve performance
  • Understand how leadership styles relate to decision making
  • Understand how to respond to interpersonal conflict
