Industry Introduction - 18 hours
  • Introduction to the various roles in the fashion industry.
  • Understand how all roles work together in bringing products to market.
Building a Technical Specification Package - 18 hours
  • Introduction to building a spec sheet.
  • Use of software to produce industry-standard technical documents.
  • Understand how to prepare technical specification packages.
Construction - 18 hours
  • Overview / review of different seam constructions.
  • Identify construction details in a spec sheet.
  • Overview of trim items often found in apparel products.
  • BOM (Bill of Materials) are defined.
  • Build a BOM, estimating yields, minimum orders, etc.
  • Understand and prepare a production plan / calendar.
  • Identify fabric and trim lead times with suppliers.
  • Understand lab dips, colour matching, and DTM (Dye to Match) trims.
Textile Science - 38 hours
  • Textile fibres, yarn classification and numbering, texturing, spun yarn manufacturing and yarn testing.
  • Knitting and weaving fundamentals, and nonwovens.
  • Fabric preparation and fabric finishing.
  • Colour - dyestuffs, pigments, digital and traditional printing methods.
  • Fabric sourcing.
Prototype Building - 88 hours
  • Review of design and pattern making.
  • Problem solving in manufacturing.
  • Identify effective methods for tracking changes.
  • Producing a run - either sample or production, and what are the differences.
  • QC - working with production to identify and uphold quality standards.
  • Confirm and release approved tech packs.
  • Using tech packs, produce three samples at domestic factory
Sourcing - 72 hours
  • Understand the role of sourcing and determine best methods of use.
  • Pros and cons of factory allocation.
  • Confirm material souring.
  • Understand flow chart that runs between PD,Sourcing Mangers and Design
  • Using learned techniques, locate one overseas apparel manufacturer to produce a total of three samples, using tech packs created.
Production & Planning - 36 hours
  • Understand basic factory flow.
  • Understand and prepare costing, estimating yields.
  • Produce a production plan using strict timelines.
  • Understand the role of finance.
