Principles of Shipbroking and Chartering

Course details

To obtain a general but practical appreciation of the subject.  Enable students to handle chartering enquiries and be able to conclude basic terms of common dry cargo and tanker charter parties.

Course Outline 

• Introduction to freight markets/ship types 
• Roles  played by brokers/ charterers/ principals 
• General idea of International Sales contracts (FOB, CIF, EX Works, etc.) and how they can lead to chartering requirements 
• Brief outline of documentary credit and role of shipping documents, especially role played by B/L

Course Methodology     

The course will be conducted through highly interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, slide presentations and tests.
