Course details

Participants in Strand 2, must complete modules 2,5 & 7 of the Strand 1 Tutor Education which are as follows:

  • Research Skills and Programme Development in Exercise & Health Fitness
  • Applied Multimedia in Exercise & Health Fitness Tuition
  • Final Project Submission

Participants must also accumulate an additional 30 ECTS Credits from the HCEHF specialist courses not previously completed.

  • Personal Training (ECTS = 30)
  • Strength & Conditioning for Sport (ECTS = 30)
  • Pilates & Corrective Exercise (ECTS = 30)
  • Health Related Activity for Children (ECTS = 15)
  • Fit for Life: Lifestyle Management (ECTS = 15)
  • Facility Operations (ECTS = 15)
  • Active Aging for the Older Adult (ECTS = 15)
  • Studio Cycling (Spinning) (ECTS = 15)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Module Elective 2 Entry Requirements:

Higher Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (HCEHF) or 60 ECTS

  • Credits from Year 2 Specialist Module LinkIn’s or an equivalent qualification.

OFA Occupational First Aid (OFA)

is an NCEF & industry requirement. All candidates on the aboveprogramme must provide a current OFA Certificate prior to completion.

Experience:

Minimum two years practical experience working in the Health/Leisure/Fitness industry or in an area relevant to the role of an NCEF Practitioner (e.g. Advanced Instructor, Gym Supervisor/ Manager).

Knowledge

: Broad knowledge base a Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness modules and HCEHF Specialist Courses

Attitudes and personal qualities:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and mature disposition.

Other desirable criteria:

Practical experience of working in any of the HCEHF specialist courses.

Successful Interview: Interviews can be completed via face to face, telephone or skype

Please Note:

NCEF/UL Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Scheme: Previously qualified NCEF Level 1 and Level 2 Instructors and those applicants with equivalent qualifications are eligible to apply for entry on to this programme through the NCEF/UL RPL Scheme. Applicants must complete a Portfolio of Learning with their application. This portfolio should clearly detail your existing qualification and background.

About National Council for Exercise & Fitness

The National Council for Exercise & Fitness (NCEF) provides and facilitates comprehensive education and training for Exercise and Health Fitness Professional Instructors in Ireland

The NCEF was initially established in 1987 by the Physical Education Association of Ireland (PEAI) in association with Thomond College of Education (now integrated into the University of Limerick). The initiation of the scheme was also supported by the Sports Section, Department of Education at that time. The NCEF is an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick.

The NCEF is a registered company limited by guarantee. It operates on a not-for-profit basis and is guided by a Board of Trustees. Board members consist of representation from PEAI, UL, business, education, employer and leisure industry backgrounds.
