This 3 day non-workshop course covers various enhancements to POWER7 hardware and firmware and to the AIX7 operating system. It starts with an overview of POWER7 and POWER7+ architectures and equipment up to the November 2012 announcements. The course then proceeds with in-depth discussions on selected software and firmware enhancements (ranging from AIX 6.1 TL2 and PowerVM 2.1.0 through AIX 7.1 TL2 and PowerVM 2.2.2). These enhancements include Virtual Fibre Channel, Active Memory Sharing, Active Memory Expansion, 4 thread SMT, Active System Optimizer and other enhancements to the areas of AIX security, performance, and workload partitions. For a workshop course with hands-on lab exercises, attend POWER7 Systems and AIX 7.1 Differences Workshop (AN081GB). The workshop course has the advantage of hands-on exercises but will often lag behind POWER7 and AIX 7 - What's New (AN060GB) in receiving the latest updates. Read the course descriptions carefully as there can be a significant overlap in discussion content between (AN060GB) and (AN081GB) depending upon where these courses are in their update cycles. To be updated on the latest enhancements, you should attend IBM Technical conferences or symposiums.
- Please refer to the Course Overview for description information.
