Course details

This specialist course is for qualified fitness instructors who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills and provide safe and effective instruction in Pilates & Corrective. These specialists can work with clients on a one to one basis or in a group setting.

Course Details:

  • Four contact weekends
  • Private study and an additional day for final assessments.
  • Work experience which includes a detailed project and submission of a short video.

RECOGNITION

  • 30 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits towards the Higher Certificate/ Diploma/B.Sc. in Exercise & Health Fitness through a flexible learning pathway.
  • ECTS credits can be used towards the NCEF Higher Certificate / Diploma / B.Sc. in Exercise & Health Fitness through a flexible learning pathway and also towards other University qualifications in Europe who follow ECTS credit value system.
  • Successful students will receive an NCEF Certificate of Completion
  • The NCEF is accredited by the European Health Fitness Association (EHFA).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

(A) For Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (CEHF) Graduates and Recertified NCEF Level 1 holders:

  • Completed NCEF/UL Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae outlining your work experience in the industry
  • Copy of your CEHF/PEAI NCEF Level 1 Certificate

(B)For Expired NCEF Level 1 holders (1987-2006) and for those with equivalent qualifications:

  • Completed NCEF/UL Application Form
  • Completed Portfolio of Learning (POL) as part of the NCEF/UL Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Scheme. This POL form is available from NCEF Head Office or download Pilates & Corrective Exercise POL here.
  • OFA Occupational First Aid (OFA) is an NCEF & industry requirement. All candidates must provide a current OFA Certificate on application.

Application Procedure

  • Apply by filling in the on-line form or download the printer friendly version here.
  • Application form and copy of your CEHF results or equivalent (NCEF Level 1 current) and OFA certificate to NCEF Head Office
  • For applicants that do not hold a leaving certificate or equivalent, you will need to apply through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – for information please read the information on the RPL page. A cost of €125 applies to all Portfolio of Learning applicants. However if successful this fee is then deducted from the cost of overall programme fees.
  • Please submit RPL fee with initial application
  • If you fulfil all the criteria and are successful an acceptance pack will be posted to you.
  • The completed acceptance forms and required documentation and deposit are returned to head office by the deadline date given in the acceptance pack.
  • Please note that once accepted onto the programme all correspondence will be sent via email so it is vital to ensure you have a valid current email address and that this address is clearly stated on your application form.

About National Council for Exercise & Fitness

The National Council for Exercise & Fitness (NCEF) provides and facilitates comprehensive education and training for Exercise and Health Fitness Professional Instructors in Ireland

The NCEF was initially established in 1987 by the Physical Education Association of Ireland (PEAI) in association with Thomond College of Education (now integrated into the University of Limerick). The initiation of the scheme was also supported by the Sports Section, Department of Education at that time. The NCEF is an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick.

The NCEF is a registered company limited by guarantee. It operates on a not-for-profit basis and is guided by a Board of Trustees. Board members consist of representation from PEAI, UL, business, education, employer and leisure industry backgrounds.
