Course details
This course is designed and developed for participants with an understanding of the principles and applications of technology used in physical security systems. The scientific foundation for physical security technology in modern security applications and techniques will be presented. The technology will include: locks, safes, strong rooms, perimeter protection, structural strength of buildings, physical barriers, lighting, conducting and documenting a security survey, and properties of materials for security protection.
This unit aims to present a broad overview of the subject of physical security and its applications in the business environment. At the end of this unit, participants should be able to:
- understand and apply the principles of security practices and technology in the area of physical security;
- understand the principle of Defence in Depth and the application of the principle to the protection of assets;
- comprehend the principle of crime prevention through environmental design, and apply these concepts to macro and micro designs;
- apply the concepts of defence in depth to the design of types of barriers including fences and walls;
- know the features of the types of security lighting and when best to apply particular types of lamps;
- design the security lighting necessary for a hypothetical strategic facility;
- understand the strengths of materials for the structural design of barriers in buildings to prevent intrusion;
- be aware of the types of security locks and mechanisms for asset protection and understand the features of these locking devices for appropriate application;
- design an appropriate key control strategy for the management of the locking system of a large facility
- comprehend the principles of design of safes and security containers as a physical barrier in the protection of assets
- conduct a physical security review of a facility
After completing Physical Security & Facility Management, you should be able to:
- enhance building security the concepts for the protection of property, information and people;
- apply the concepts crime prevention through environmental design; and
- conduct and document a physical security survey.
