Course details

This course is design to equip students with the knowledge, skill and competence to work in a range of settings within the leisure industry. The course content is aimed at supervisory /duty management level and provides students with teaching and instruction qualifications in fitness, swimming and technical areas. The course has excellent long standing links with the industry locally and nationally and students can avail of work experience and internship opportunities in a broad range of facilities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

QQI Level 5-FETAC Level 5 award in Sport and Recreation or equivalent qualifications or experience.

COURSE CONTENT

The following subjects may be offered:

Safety Management

The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to design safety and risk management strategies, supervise their implementation and to evaluate workplace safety policies.

Leisure Facility Operations

This area of study equips the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to safely and effectively manage the day to day operations of a leisure facility.

Customer Service

This subject will equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to direct quality customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.

Sports Nutrition

This subject involves study of the principles and practice of managing nutrition for athletes and those involved in fitness and exercise.

Business Management

The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the principles and practice of management within the business environment and to enable the learner to develop management skills to work independently or within a supervisory capacity.

Marketing Management

This subject will enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to analyse, evaluate and critically apply marketing management principles and practice to a range of contexts.

Deep Water Pool Lifeguard

Work Experience

The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks autonomously and/or in a supervisory capacity.
