Course details

Carbon Managementprogramme is a joint initiative by the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a research institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

The objective is to train managers, engineers, and consultants to become experts in carbon footprint quantification and communication. These experts will help companies to develop a carbon footprint initiative and link it to top-line/bottom-line improvements, thereby effectively strengthening their competitiveness. At the end of the course, participants will be equipped with both methodology and hands-on experiences to assess carbon footprint in compliance with international standards, effectively communicate their eco-performance, and formulate action plans to improve energy and resource efficiency.

The programme is conducted by SIMTech’s specialists who have extensive experience in carbon footprint assessment and analysis for various products and manufacturing processes across diverse industrial sectors.

Value of Quantifying and Communicating Carbon Footprint

Many factors arising from climate change and environmental sustainability are driving companies to quantify and communicate the carbon footprint of their products, services, and operations. Examples include Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) programmes, carbon disclosure requirement by customers, supplier criteria, green procurement, and market preferences. Ability to meet these requirements would strengthen the company’s customer-base and open a window of new opportunities.

Critical contributions to carbon footprint include energy consumption, materials utilisation, and waste management. These are the essential elements impacting a company’s bottom-line. This makes carbon footprint an effective Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for meeting a company’s environmental and cost improvement goals. It is also an ideal tool for communicating a company’s contribution and achievements towards a sustainable future.

Uniqueness of the PE WSQ Carbon Management Programme

The Carbon Management Programme is designed as a consultancy and mentorship-based training programme that leverages on SIMTech’s Carbon-footprint Assessment and Reduction for Resource Efficiency (CAR2E™) Methodology to help companies establish their carbon footprint baseline and strategic improvement plan in correspondence with current and future business opportunities.
