Course details

This module aims to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence to enable them to care for and address the needs of a person diagnosed with life-limiting illness in the last days of their life and also his/her family in a dignified and holistic way

It is an elective module towards the Level 5 Award in Healthcare Support.

Programme Aim:

At the end of the course the learner will:

• Understand their role in providing holistic care for persons diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and also for their families.
• Be able to communicate effectively with persons with a life-limiting illness and also with their families.
• Develop an awareness around the uniqueness of each person’s approach to death and to respect this.
• Be able to work effectively as part of the healthcare team
• Explore different attitudes to death and dying to include an understanding for individual patterns of grief, bereavement and loss.

Entry Requirement

Minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education. Strong interest in the provision of quality care in a healthcare setting.
