Course details

This course is focused upon advanced functionality of open source programming languages. This course is aimed at students with programming experience, or students who have completed the Open Source Coding 1 course at CCT.

Programme Aims and Objectives

This course exposes the learner to the advanced concepts of the open source programming language.

Once this course is completed, the learner will be able to:

  • Develop an advanced open source applications
  • Package and deploy an open source application
  • Utilise and repurpose existing open source applications

Programme Content

Topics covered in this module include:

  • Object oriented programming
  • Design patterns
  • Error handling and native logging
  • Outline of common utility functions available in open source domain
  • Implementing open source packages in your code
  • Unit testing with open source applications
  • Creating distributable applications, allowing your software to easily be transported and installed on other computers
  • Manipulating XML
  • Interacting with databases using
  • Benchmarking your code and optimization strategies
  • Developing a lightweight client for interacting with HTTP servers
