Course details
The Occupational Therapist Assistant is a supporting roe under the supervision of a registered Occupational therapist. Once the patient has been assessed and a care plan devised, the OT assistant may help the individual achieve practical, independent living goals such as using their walking stick correctly,dressing themselves, going shopping or preparing a meal. In addition to those with an interest in the care area, the course will be useful to those with construction and industrial qualifications as they may also be qualified to carry out physical fittings and adaptations to furniture, buildings and everyday pieces of equipment to help with the rehabilitation of the patient.

A minimum of eight modules must be completed to achieve a Major Award:

- Work Experience (mandatory)
- Occupational Therapy Assistant Practice (mandatory)
- Occupational Therapy assistant Theory (mandatory)
- Activities of Living Patient Care (mandatory)

- Social Studies
Entry Requirements
- Leaving Certificate standard of education.
- Relevant work experience coupled with life experience.
- People with a trade(e.g plumber, carpenter, etc.).
- All entry is subject to interview.
- Satisfactory Garda clearance application.
- Satisfactory medical assessment.
Work Experience
Work experience placement is an integral part of this course. Candidates gain first hand experience by attending appropriate and related work placements within the health-care environment. Garda clearance is essential to partake in work experience which comprises a minimum of 30 days work placement. This course is also available to those working in the healthcare sector.

FETAC Level 5 Occupational Therapy Assistant (DHSXX)
- Manual Handling of Patients Certificate
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- FETAC Level 5 Occupational first Aid Certificate
