  •  Unit 2—Patient Assessment
  •  Primary and Secondary surveys
  •  List methods to obtain breathing rate
  •  State normal pulse rates and outline methods to assess skin condition
  •  Explain the need for additional medical identification
  •  Assess patient external bleeding
  •  Assess levels of consciousness
  •  Unit 3—Respiratory Emergencies
  •  Define respiration and list component parts of respiratory system
  •  List signs of adequate air exchange
  •  Define asthma
  •  Demonstrate rescue breathing using mouth to mouth / mouth to mask
  •  Demonstrate treatment of patient with respiratory difficulties
  •  Unit 4—Cardiac First Response
  •  Retrieve an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  •  Define major life threatening emergencies
  •  Describe actions to take for AED prompts
  •  Unit 5— Wounds and Bleeding

  •  Outline management of head, eye and facial injuries
  •  Outline management of crush injuries
  •  Demonstrate procedure to clean a minor wound
  •  Unit 6—Altered levels of Consciousness
  •  Define shock and treatment of shock
  •  List functions of the nervous system
  •  Demonstrate the recovery position

Assessment: 

Candidates must successfully complete a Skills Demonstration and Examination
