Course details
This comprehensive FETAC Level 5 First Aid Course is designed by the Health and Safety Authority to ensure that all first aiders have a high level of knowledge and practical skills to give effective life support, diagnose and treat injuries or illness and maintain care and comfort of the casualty.
Participants who have completed this course will have a good understanding of
- The responsibilities of the occupational first aider
- Health and Safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace
- How to provide treatment for preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical aid
- How to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse
- How to co-ordinate first aid arrangements in the workplace
Course Content

- Wounds and bleeding
- Altered levels of consciousness
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Burns and scalds, chemicals, poison, electric shock
Once the course is complete the student will receive FETAC Level 5 Certificate that is valid for 2 years. All workplace first aid persons must now be in receipt of a FETAC Level 5 Certificate as per the HSA Guidelines. This course can be run over 3 consecutive days, one day a week for 3 consecutive weeks or over 7 evenings for 3 hours per evening.
