This 3 day course is intended for personnel who wish to become certified first aiders in their workplace. Topics covered include: responsibilities of a first-aider, patient approach and contacting the emergency services.

Personnel who wish to become certified first aiders in their workplace.

OBJECTIVES

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Provide necessary first aid within the workplace
  • Implement essential life saving skills if required.

  • Responsibilities of a first- aider The Nervous System
  • Patient Approach Head Injuries
  • Contacting the emergency services Unconsciousness
  • Examination of Casualty Fainting
  • Diagnosis and principles of treatment Recovery Position
  • Emergency First Aid Kits – contents Epilepsy
  • Respiratory emergencies Diabetes
  • Asphyxia and its causes Poisoning
  • Asthma Fractures
  • Choking Sprains, strains and dislocation
  • Heart disease Crush injuries
  • Aspirin administration Handling spinal injuries
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation Burns and Scalds
  • Defibrillator / AED Chemical burns
  • Wounds and bleeding Electric shock
  • Examination of the eye Blood and the circulation
  • General rules for treatment Revision – theoretical (all subjects)
  • Control of bleeding Revision – practical (any requested subject)
  • Dressings and bandages

ASSESSMENT

Examination – Written Test / Practical Incident Scenarios / CPR - AED Test
