This module is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competence in their theory, principals and practice underpinning the nursing process and nursing profession to enable the learner to perform a range of basic nursing skills.
Programme Aim:
Learners who successfully complete this module will;
- Acquire a knowledge of the structure and function of the healthcare service in Ireland
- Know the various disciplines and specialities within nursing
- Understand the nursing process
- Appreciate the models of care
- Be aware of nursing ethics and etiquette in care situations
- Communicate effectively in ways that are consistent with a carer’s role
- Avoid occupational hazards
- Become familiar with common nursing/medical terminology

Level 4 certificate, Leaving Certificate, or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences
