To provide an academic foundation for entry to nurse training and to develop practical skills required for nursing and related Health occupations.

The Healthcare Support Certificate is the Department of Health & Children’s recommended qualification for all Healthcare Assistants working in the public and private sector In addition, the newly published National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People require all newly recruited care staff and those in posts less than one year to commence training to FETAC Level 5 or equivalent within two years of taking up employment.

With an increasing ageing population, in addition to advances and developments in care services in Ireland; the demand for skilled and competent personnel is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Entry requirements:

Leaving Cert. or equivalent. Mature students may also apply. Interview also required.

F.E.T.A.C. Level 5 plus First Aid Certificate and Manual Handling
