100% online delivery, this unique programme gives you maximum flexibility to study anytime anywhere to achieve a bachelor degree in Commerce. This part time Bachelor of Commerce is a new four-year online programme in business education. A Diploma in Business is awarded upon successful completion of the first two years. The programme will help students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to new business methods and contexts throughout their working life. Graduates will have a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of business and management and will have an opportunity to gain a more comprehensive grounding in specialist areas such as Services Marketing, Human Resource Management and E-Commerce.

Who is this course intended for?

The Diploma and Degree are aimed at mature students who may currently work in business or hope to in the future, but who could not avail of third level education immediately following second level. The programme is delivered online and by blended learning to allow mature students with work and/or family commitments to study at times that suit their needs.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a minimum of pass mathematics at Leaving Certificate level. Applicants are normally expected to have satisfied the matriculation requirement of the University either on the basis of mature years, aged 21 or over by 1st of January of the year of entry, or by meeting the normal minimum entry (matriculation) requirements of the University. All students who have passed the Foundation Course in Business/ Commerce are eligible for admission. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Year 1 : Contemporary Management Thought, Economics, Introduction to Management Accounting, Information Management for Business, Contemporary Management Thougt , Mathematics, Skills for Learning, Introduction to Financial Accounting

Year 2: Management Accounting, Business Finance, Managerial Economics, Macroeconomics, Business Law I, Digital Marketing, Principals of Marketing, Management Skills and Organisational Psychology and Analysis

Year 3: Business Law II, Ireland in the Global Economy, Information and Operations Management, Statistics, Innovation and Entrepreneurship , Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, Marketing Research and Services Marketing

Year 4: Business Taxation, Strategic Management, Marketing Strategy, E-Commerce and Management of Organisational Change.

Year 4 options, choose two from: Financial Reporting, Information Systems Strategy and Planning, Business Negotiation, and Marketing Communications

Students receive a online resource pack via Blackboard (VLT) for each module, containing core learning materials. Some modules will require students to purchase a prescribed text. Students communicate with dedicated module lecturers online using Blackboard, a virtual learning tool. E-mail and telephone support is also available.

Further education

On completion of the diploma programme students may progress for a further 2 years for the award of a degree.

Requirements and assessment

Students are required to attend on campus for induction and for end of term exams. A number of online workshops will be held each academic year - online attendance at these will be optional with all of the material covered also being made available online. Students will also participate in online discussions and activities throughout the year.
