Course details

Small businesses of all sorts tend to earn profits in fits and starts, or in what this course calls "sprints. This is due in part to the natural swings in the economy that no small business can control.

Prior to the Great Recession of 2008, many interior designers were experiencing the best years of their lives. But many of those same designers were caught off guard by the recession, and were sent reeling as existing projects were cut short or terminated, and new ones were suddenly hard to come by. Clients that had scarcely looked at invoices in the past, became miserly...and even litigious!

Working with hundreds of designers to get through that period and into today's recovery, we identified the critical policies and business practices that designers "wish they had had in place in 2008, and had better have in place before the next downturn. (Yes, there will be one!)

But in the process, we realized that these simple steps were steps that all designers should take all of the time, regardless of economic conditions. In this course, you will:

  • Learn six critical policies that can make the difference between success or failure;
  • Understand how "sales differs from "marketing, and the appropriate time to use each;
  • Learn the importance of maintaining a constant "turnaround mentality, as if your business was always desperate for cash;
  • See how to turn your plain old calendar into a powerful commitment tool;
  • Understand why your timeline will dictate many of your business practices;
  • Learn how to generate a bundle of cash in a very short time.

Any interior designer that studies and implements the steps in this course will find themselves with more cash flow in the short term, and a business that is better suited for the long haul. Never let an economic cycle catch you by surprise again!
