Course details

  • Students learn how to design, develop and produce rich multimedia content. The range of skills students gain includes Digital Video Production, Web Design, Image Processing and Interactive Media Development. The course enables students to take a concept and develop it into a fully-fledged digital multimedia product.
  • The course introduces students to the following industry standard software: Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Edge Animate. Final Cut Pro is used as our video editing tool. Students also explore third party plug-ins and alternate software.
  • As well as a fully equipped Mac computer lab, students have access to Canon DSLR cameras with various lens, a Sony AVCHD camera, zoom recorders, Tungsten lighting kits and a portable green screen.
  • St John’s Multimedia Department is an Apple Authorised Training Centre for Final Cut Pro, the industry leading software for non-linear video editing. Multimedia Level 5 is a one year programme, progressing onto Multimedia Level 6.

Multimedia Department Facilities

  • The Multimedia Department is equipped with the very latest software and hardware. Facilities include Apple G5 computers with wide screen Apple monitors, digital video cameras, digital still cameras, scanners, colour laser printers and sound recording equipment.
  • Software products used on the course include Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash, Director MX, Apple Final Cut Pro, Merlin Project Management, DVD Studio Pro and many more.
  • The Multimedia Department has it’s own web site for showcasing student work, maintains an Apple XServe server and has a wireless network in the multimedia lab for students own laptops.
  • All multimedia students are provided with a college e-mail address facilitating the distribution of course notes, course work, the submission of projects etc.

Progression

On successful achievement of FETAC Level 5 students may progress to Multimedia FETAC Level 6.
