Research suggests by 2016 there will be 44 million apps available for download. The development of applications that run on mobile smart devices will become more important, as mobile smart devices become an integral part of people’s lives.
About this Course
This course enables you to acquire outstanding research and application development skills in mobile technologies through analysis, investigation, requirements elicitation, problem solving, and team work. Through its innovative teaching and learning strategies, the course develops an in-depth expertise of technical areas such as mobile application architecture and security, application development for mobile platforms, usability and testing and the Internet of Things.
As the course is practical in nature, you will gain specialised practical and technical skills in the core topics of Mobile Technologies including: Android, iOS and Apple OSX Application Development, RIA - Rich Internet Applications: HTML5, CCS3, XML, JSON and JQuery, along with the emerging technologies of the Internet of Things. In addition to the technical content you will also understand areas such as business strategies and the commercialisation of these technologies. The course is completely delivered by faculty and industry practitioners with proven expertise in mobile technologies.
Who is the course for?
- This course is for experienced ICT professionals in the workplace and college graduates.
- This course is ideal for graduates with a level 8 degree on the National Framework of Qualifications, in computing/computer science or in a cognate area that are looking to progress into the emerging mobile technologies market to increase their employment potential. This course is also for experienced ICT professionals looking to increase their employability.
- Candidates who do not hold a computing degree and are currently working in the IT sector may be considered based on relevant academic qualifications or extensive work experience.
Award and Progression
- The Master of Science in Mobile Technologies is awarded by QQI at level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this course may progress to a major award at level 10 on the NFQ.
- Students may also elect to exit early with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mobile technologies at level 9 or a Certificate in Mobile Technologies at level 9.
Entry Requirements
An honours (level 8) primary degree with a 2.2 award or higher in computer science or a cognate discipline. The college operates a Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) scheme meaning applicants who do not meet the normal academic requirements may be considered based on relevant work and other experience. This may be assessed using a portfolio of learning, demonstration of work produced and an interview.
