MSc in Network and Information Security

Course details

This course equips you with the essential skills to develop an interesting career in this specialist area. You’ll be identifying and solving problems, creating efficient network security plans and learning how to adapt to industry challenges and innovations.

After completing this course you’ll be:

• Prepared to competently embrace the many complex and integrated analytical, technical and design aspects of computing networks and communication systems security
• Able to develop robust and efficient network security plans, strategies and solutions
• Able to identify industrial requirements of computer network security and can analyse security risks and can propose solutions
• More knowledgable in many interrelated areas: resilience of IT infrastructure security, ethical hacking tools, hacking and penetration tools, etc
• Have a deeper knowledge and understanding of the specialist area of cryptography and computer forensics
• Have an in-depth knowledge, understanding and develop practical skills in meeting the specific technical and design requirements of exacting industry standards as they emerge
• Be able to to do independent research in a professional manner
• Prepared to critically assess and reflect on the major challenges in the field of network security and suggest ways in which they might be addressed
• Able to apply appropriate research, design and implementation methodologies in your development of network security solutions
• Prepared to reliably perform a range of distinct roles within group based project teams

The programme contains eight taught modules and a final Dissertation / Dissertation by Practice. Four modules are taught per semester and then you’ll complete a project over a period of twelve weeks. The overall programme is one calendar year long.

Students who successfully complete eight taught modules and are not able to complete their projects, can exit with an award of Post Graduate Diploma in Network Security (60 ECTS, level 9).
