Course details

Laser machining has become an essential tool in many industrial applications where it demonstrates exceptional capabilities in terms of speed and flexibility. An understanding of the methods of removing materials under different processing conditions and selection of the right laser will affect the quality of the parts. This module introduces students to the fundamentals of laser machining technology, examines laser hazards, and highlights the safety measures required in an industrial workplace. It provides a solid understanding on the use of lasers for cutting, drilling, marking, cleaning, etc. and the heat effect on the work substrates. The course will also introduce students to emerging technologies such as laser texturing for surface property enhancements, as well as new industrial applications. Students will be guided through a Module 1: Employ Laser for the PE Industry hands-on session in using laser systems to enhance their understanding of laser machining technology in the production industry.
