Course details

The aim of this module is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop and deploy mobile applications. The course will explore the growing sophistication, scope and diversity of current mobile applications as well as the range of devices they run on. Students will investigate the possibilities offered by mobile platforms as well as how to work effectively within the constraints of the mobile environment. Students will develop a mobile application through the use of a mobile app framework, which will offer the opportunity to employ design principles and strategies.

Entry Requirement

  • No prerequisites apart from basic computing skills.

  • No examinations. Ongoing assessment will take place during the programme

Course Content

  • Overview of the growth and development of Mobile applications, their current place in today’s society, their perse uses and forms and possible future directions.
  • Fundamental Concepts of Mobile Application Development and designing applications for the mobile environment.
  • The Design Process - how to generate and develop robust ideas.
  • UX/UI design for mobile apps.
  • Overview of MIT’s App Inventor environment.
  • Building a mobile application through the App Inventor framework – Introduction to programming concepts such as expressions, commands, variables and conditionals as well as dealing with events through event handlers, managing and utilizing data from databases and working with images and sound.

Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) is an institute of higher education in Limerick, a modern urban city in the Mid-Theyst region of Ireland and is one of 13 institutes that are members of the Institutes of Technology, Ireland (IOTI).
