Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), was signed into law by President George W. Bush in October 2008. Learn how this law applies to your benefits and the equality of the mental health/substance abuse to the medical side. This is history in the making of 20 years! Under this law, insurance companies can no longer arbitrarily limit the number of days in a hospital or out-patient, or assign higher co-payments or deductibles for those consumers in need of mental health and substance abuse services.
