The main objectives of this programme are to produce specialist graduates of high calibre in inter-national relations and security studies to meet the needs of the Sultanate of Oman and the region in these areas. By the end of the programme the students will be able to:
-Identify principal paradigms and the major theories used in the study of international relations and security studies.
-Identify and describe the major processes in the international system including globalization, integration, and the causes of conflict both at the international level and in the Middle East.
-Apply theoretical frameworks to understand practical international relations and security studies issues.
-Master communication, negotiation and persuasion skills to craft presentations, construct arguments and articulate rigorous debates in international relations and security studies.
-Operate both in government and private service with the ability to work with experts both nationally and internationally
About Sultan Qaboos University
Sultan Qaboos University is the realization of the promise announced by His. Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said during the 10th anniversary of Oman’s National Day in 1980. Construction started in 1982 and the first Sultan Qaboos University students were enrolled in 1986. In accordance with the Royal Directives of His Majesty, The University commenced with five colleges; namely Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Education and Science. Furthermore the College of Arts was established in 1987, following the College of Commerce and Economics which was developed in 1993.
