Masterclass Content

For Irish directors, writers and producers to gain valuable insight into the knowledge, expertise and attitude that Ben Wheatley has developed over his last four feature films, various viral ads, commercials, shorts as creator, director, writer, editor and producer.

Ben Wheatley has a distinctively gritty, darkly comic style; gain first hand insight into his genre-blending style honed from making internet virals and commercials; his role as director and his collaborative relationship with writers and editors; the skills set required to making four highly successful Award-winning feature films (with the involvement of Film 4, Studio Canal etc); making the first ever British film that had a multi-platform release in July 2013.

This is a discussion style masterclass, using key visuals and clips, examples of his earlier work/virals, storyboarding :

Genre 

making genre-blending films, from his first (Down Terrace, filmed in 8 days), Kill List, Sight Seers, to his most recent A Field in England (make in Black and White, released July 2013)

Collaboration 

with his co-writer, co-editor, producer and HODs.

Script to Screen 

developing stories  

genre, budget, etc; casting, rehearsal, shooting style, post-production process - preferred editing style.

Budgets and Finance 

Get out and do it; get the experience; make films that can be made for small budgets, get experience - whether that's virals, commercials, shorts.
