    Course details

    The underlying aim of this programme is to challenge and facilitate students to critically analyse the theoretical and practical knowledge required to undertake an original small scale research study utilising a systematic rigorous approach in order to generate findings that are transferable to the practice setting. This programme is aimed at students who have professional and academic experience equivalent to Post Graduate Diploma Level 9 (NQAI).

    This programme is delivered over a one-year period (part time). Students undertake two core modules and complete the research dissertation by end of year one (September).

    Each student will be allocated a research supervisor, and also engage in supervision activities throughout the academic year.
    Applicants must have undertaken a level 8 research module (or equivalent learning) before being accepted to the Master of Health Sciences Programme.

    Module Overview:

    Module will be assessed through coursework and the development of a detailed research proposal. Student will be provided with individual supervision for proposal development. This module aims to consolidate and expand students undergraduate understanding of the research process. The module will equip students with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to develop and prepare a detailed research proposal. A wide range of research approaches; designs; methods of data collection and analysis will be critically evaluated so that the students gain an appreciation of the variety of methodologies available to study a wide range of health care issues. The module will culminate in the development of a detailed research proposal.

    Career Opportunities

    The completion of the MHSc (Specialist Nursing) will provide the student with a Masters qualification that will support many employment opportunities and promotion within nursing practice, management, education, research, and specialism including a pathway to advanced practice.
