Course details

The overall aim of this programme is to facilitate the personal and intellectual development of the students in order to ensure synthesis at the highest level in their chosen field of knowledge.

Students who successfully complete the Master of Arts in Accounting programme are exempt from CAP2 Examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland.

The student will be expected to:

  • evaluate, contrast, criticise and judge the fundamental and advanced theories, concepts, principles, methods and techniques of accounting and research;
  • develop and demonstrate the critical abilities of analysis, interpretation, evaluation and judgement;
  • lay a meaningful foundation for further research and study and self-directed, life-long learning;
  • develop the ability to exercise strategic judgement and to choose and apply techniques in the analysis and interpretation of information;
  • assess and contrast the impact of decisions;
  • evaluate and criticise current practices and issues and assess the strategic impact of these issues.

Minimum Entry Requirements

An honours bachelor degree in accounting (minimum grade 2.2) or closely related discipline, together with the standard required in terms of listed prerequisites for specific modules within the curriculum. Prior to commencement of the programme, students undertake a two-day induction course. The induction course is an integral part of the programme which commences in early September each year.
